Item Details
Elizabeth II sterling silver Georgian style pepper pot, with a plain baluster form, and a push-fit lid with finial.
The original* hallmarks have been cancelled by the Goldsmiths' Hallmark Authentication Committee, possibly due to the suspect soldering around the pedestal, meaning the original hallmarks were likely issued to a different article and illegally transposed onto this pepper pot. This has been legalised by having modern hallmarks reapplied by the London Assay Office, which in this case acts as the sponsors mark L A O, as well as the 925 mark and lion passant mark for sterling silver, leopard head mark for London, and UK date letter t for 2018.
* Original hallmarks, which have been cancelled, would have been the Britannia mark for Britannia 958 silver, lion-head-erased for London (Britannia), date letter F for 1721 and makers mark Tu for Francis Turner.
It measures 108mm high (inc. finial) by 50mm wide, and has a silver weight of 81.7g
Date of manufacture
2018
Solder marks to the pedestal foot (see description), and wear to the lid with visible solder repair and a strengthening plate repair inside the lid.
