George III sterling silver scissor action sugar tongs, with initial engraved pivot cartouche M P.
Only simplified hallmarks, which have wear, and consist of the lion passant mark for sterling silver, and makers mark BC for Benjamin Cartwright I. No city mark or date letter, which was intentionally absent by the assay office on low weight silver during this period, but assayed in London, circa 1760.
It measures 116mm long, with 45mm wide across the finger rings and 16mm wide nips, and has a silver weight of 35.9g.
